Palmar erythema

The symmetrical redness or pinkness on the palms of the hands. 

Common causes:

  • Pregnancy: High estrogen levels change blood flow

  • Liver failure: Cirrhosis or hepatitis alter hormone breakdown

  • Autoimmune diseases: Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Hyperthyroidism

  • Medications and lifestyle: Topiramate, albuterol, or heavy smoking
