Petechia

Tiny, flat, non-blanching, macular hemorrhage spots (1-3 mm) in the skin or mucous membranes due to capillary bleeding. Possible causes are trauma (coughing, vomiting, crying, lifting heavy objects, scrapes, sunburn, insect bites), infections (CMV, EBV, influenza, strep throat, scarlet fever, sepsis, meningitis), medications (heparin, warfarin, penicillin, anti-seizure, NSAIDs, aspirin), thrombocytopenia, leukemia, lymphoma, vitamin deficiency (C and K), lupus, or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
