Retinal hemorrhage

Bleeding within or beneath the neurosensory retina due to rupture or leakage of retinal vessels, manifesting as intraretinal, preretinal, subretinal, or vitreous-adjacent blood accumulation. Possible causes are diabetic retinopathy, hypertensio, retinal vein occlusion, trauma, retinal tear/detachment, age-related macular degeneration, hematologic disease (leukemia, anemia, sickle cell disease), and sudden changes in intraocular pressure (Valsalva retinopathy) from coughing, vomiting, or rapid changes in air pressure/altitude.
