Complete loss or severe impairment of olfactory function, characterized by absence of odor perception despite adequate odorant stimulation, typically due to pathology of the olfactory epithelium, olfactory nerve, or central olfactory pathways.
Causes
Infections: Colds, flu, COVID-19, sinusitis
Nasal blockages: Nasal polyps, allergies, deviated septum
Brain/nerve damage: Fracture near the olfactory nerves, age-related neuropathy, Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease
