Symptom

Caput medusa

A clinical sign of portal hypertension, consisting of dilated, tortuous periumbilical and superficial epigastric veins radiating from the umbilicus due to portosystemic collateral circulation, typically from recanalization of the paraumbilical veins.

Causes

  • Liver cirrhosis/fibrosis

  • Portal vein thrombosis

  • Budd-Chiari syndrome
