Elevated T4

An increased serum thyroxine (T4) concentration above the reference interval:

  • Free T4: 0.7-1.8 ng/dL or 12-22 pmol/L

  • Total T4: 5-12 μg/dL

Causes

  • Hyperthyroidism

    • Graves' disease

    • Toxic multinodular goiter

    • Toxic thyroid adenoma

    • Thyroiditis

  • Medications and hormone exposure

    • Exogenous thyroid hormone therapy

    • Amiodarone

  • Thyroid hormone resistance syndrome
