Heat intolerance

An impaired thermoregulatory response to heat, resulting in disproportionate hyperthermia, tachycardia, sweating abnormalities, and other heat-stress symptoms.

Causes

• Hyperthyroidism: Graves' disease

• Hormonal fluctuations: Menopause

• Neurological and autonomic causes

  • Multiple sclerosis

  • Autonomic nervous system dysfunction

  • Disorders affecting hypothalamic temperature regulation

  • Impaired sweating or vasomotor responses

• Medications and substances

  • Antidepressants, antihistamines, amphetamines, caffeine, decongestants, diuretics

• Metabolic and systemic conditions

  • Diabetes mellitus

  • Obesity

  • Alcohol abuse

  • Dehydration-related impairment of heat regulation

• Environmental heat exposure
