Hemiplegia

A total or partial paralysis of the muscles on one side of the body, typically resulting from a lesion affecting the contralateral motor cortex, corticospinal tract, or other central motor pathways in the brain.

  • Congenital brain abnormalities

  • Multiple sclerosis

• Infectious and inflammatory causes

  • Meningitis

  • Encephalitis

• Seizure-related postictal paralysis (Todd's paralysis)

• Spinal cord lesions causing asymmetric motor deficits
