Pulselessness

An absent or unpalpable arterial pulse, indicating complete cessation or critically reduced arterial blood flow.

Causes

  • Cardiac arrest

    • Myocardial infarction: Coronary thrombosis

    • Life-threatening arrhythmia

  • Reduced cardiac output

    • Hypovolemia: Dehydration, hemorrhage

    • Hypokalemia

    • Hyperkalemia

    • Hypoglycemia

    • Hypothermia

    • Pulmonary embolism

    • Tension pneumothorax

    • Cardiac tamponade

    • Toxin or drug poisoning

    • Septic shock

  • Arterial occlusion: 

    • Arterial thrombosis

    • Arterial embolism

    • Aortic dissection

    • Traumatic vascular injury
