Stupor

State of markedly depressed consciousness with immobility, absence of spontaneous activity, and minimal response to vigorous external stimuli, in which the patient can be transiently roused but rapidly lapses back into unresponsiveness. Often associated with drugs (alcohol, opioids, sedatives), carbon monoxide poisoning, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, hyponatremia, liver/kidney failure, infection (sepsis, encephalitis/meningitis), neurological events (stroke, traumatic brain injury, seizure, postictal state), depression, hypothermia, or heat stroke.
