Photopsia

The subjective perception of flashes, flickers, or scintillating spots of light in the absence of an external light stimulus, typically arising from retinal or occipital cortex pathology. Possible causes are posterior vitreous detachment, retinal tear, migraine aura, head trauma, eye injury, age-related macular degeneration, medications, sudden hypotension, or preeclampsia.
