An auscultatory whooshing sound produced by turbulent blood flow within arteries or veins, distinct from valvular heart sounds. Typically reflecting stenosis with increased flow velocity (atherosclerosis, FMD, arteritis), aneurysm, and high-output states (arteriovenous fistula/malformation, anemia, hyperthyroidism, pregnancy).
