Abnormally low-intensity cardiac sounds on auscultation, typically due to increased separation between the heart and chest wall.

Causes

  • Obesity

  • Pericardial effusion

  • Cardiac tamponade

  • Emphysema

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

  • Pneumothorax

  • Pleural effusion
