Facial nerve paralysis

A loss or severe reduction of voluntary motor function in muscles innervated by the seventh cranial nerve, typically producing unilateral flaccid facial weakness with impaired facial expression, eye closure, and oral competence. Possibel causes are viral infections (HSV, VZV, EBV, CMV), trauma (skull/temporal bone fracture), stroke, Guillain-Barré syndrome, tumors (neuroma, facial neuroma, parotid tumor), Lyme disease, meningitis, multiple sclerosis, sarcoidosis, and iatrogenic damage during surgery.
