Sore throat

Painful inflammation of the pharyngeal and faucial mucosa, often extending to the tonsils, manifesting as odynophagia and throat discomfort. Common causes are viral infection (common colds, influenza, EBV, COVID-19, measles, chickenpox, croup), bacterial infection (Streptococcus pyogenes, gonorrhea, chlamydia), allergies (pollen, mold, pet dander), environmental irritants (cigarette smoke, air pollution, dry air), acid reflux, and voice strain from screaming/singing.
