Tinnitus

The perception of noise (ringing, buzzing, or roaring) in the absence of an external acoustic source, usually due to pathology affecting the auditory system. Possible causes are noise exposure, presbycusis, earwax, foreign objects, ear infection, ototoxic medications (NSAIDs, diuretics, antibiotics), Ménière's disease, temporomandibular joint disorder, atherosclerosis (pulsatile tinnitus), migraine, multiple sclerosis, and acoustic neuroma/vestibular schwannoma.
