Symptom

Dehydration

Abnormal depletion of total body water (mild: <5% body water loss, moderate: 5–9% body water loss, severe: >10% body water loss), often with concomitant electrolyte imbalance, leading to impaired cellular and organ function and, in severe cases, hypovolemia and hemodynamic instability.

Causes

  • Insufficient water intake

  • Gastrointestinal fluid loss

    • Vomiting

    • Diarrhea

  • Excessive sweating

  • Polyuria

  • Alcohol consumption
