Weight gain

An increase in body mass over time, typically reflecting positive energy balance with accumulation of adipose tissue, lean mass, or fluid. Possible causes are physiological (growth, gestation), caloric imbalance, sedentary lifestyle, endocrine conditions (hypothyroidism, Cushing's syndrome, PCOS, puberty, menstruation, menopause), heart/kidney failure, medications (corticosteroids, antidepressants, antipsychotics, insulin, β-blockers), and lifestyle factors (chronic stress, insomnia, quitting smoking).
