Blindness

A complete or near-complete loss of visual perception, typically defined as absence of useful vision or visual acuity below legally blind thresholds in the better eye with optimal correction.

Causes

• Ocular pathology: Cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, trauma, infection, retinitis pigmentosa

• Optic nerve disease: Multiple sclerosis

• Central visual pathway pathology: Stroke
