Prostate cancer (65–90%)
Lung cancer (17–64%)
Thyroid cancer (65%)
Bladder cancer (40%)
Melanoma (14–45%)
Kidney cancer (20–25%)
Colorectal cancer (10%)
Pathophysiology [ihb]
The rich arterial supply of the bone --> hematogenous spread
The skeleton is the 3rd most common site of metastatic disease after lung and liver
Classification of bone lesions:
Osteoblastic (prostate cancer)
Osteolytic (breast, lung, renal cancers)
Mixed (breast cancer)

Bone pain
Nerve root or spinal cord compression
Hypercalcemia
Pathological fractures

Symptoms
Ataxia, Fasciculations, Hepatomegaly, Muscle weakness, Paresis, Paresthesia, Splenomegaly, Weakness, Weight loss
Clinical findings
Anemia, Elevated ALP, Elevated Sedimentation Rate, Hypercalcemia, Lytic bone lesion, Osteoblastic bone lesion, Pathologic fracture

Blood test: PSA

Biopsy [yvp] (if primary tumor is unknown, unable to identify the primary tumor in 60%)
Treatment
Primary cancer treatment: Radiation therapy + chemotherapeutic + hormonal drugs [smb][3fp]
Slow bone destruction: bisphosphonates + RANKL inhibitors (denosumab)
Painful or progressive lesions: Radiation therapy and Radiofrequency Thermal Ablation
Control bleeding and relieve pain: Embolization
Risk of pathologic fracture --> Surgery: Stabilize, resect and joint reconstruction
