Vomiting

Forceful, reflex-mediated expulsion of gastric and sometimes proximal intestinal contents through the mouth, typically preceded by nausea and orchestrated by the medullary vomiting center, often accompanied by autonomic activation such as tachycardia, diaphoresis, and hypersalivation. Possible causes are infections (gastroenteritis, food poisoning), GI disorders (indigestion, gastroesophageal reflux disease, gastritis, bowel obstruction), neurological conditions (migraines, head injury, vertigo, motion sickness), pregnancy, medications (chemotherapy, anesthesia), toxins (alcohol, poison), pain, anxiety, or eating disorders (bulimia).
